Vasco da Gama Bridge
Vasco da Gama bridge is located in the Park of nations on the eastern end of Lisbon, Portugal. This bridge crosses the Tagus river. It opened a second north-south corridor and is part of a new road corridor to Spain. This structure represents the longest cable-stayed bridge in Europe with a total lenght of crossing of 17,2 km.
"The Oceans: a heritage for the future" was the theme of the expo 98', and the construction of the bridge is intimately related to this expo. Lisbon needed an alternative way to cross from north to south, the 25th april bridge wasn't enough and a new bridge could help reduce traffic congestion in the capital.
